Privacy Policy - JobGlance

JobGlance is built on the belief that a powerful job search shouldn't come at the cost of your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the JobGlance ecosystem (our Web App and Chrome Extension) collects, how it is used, and the strict boundaries we have put in place to protect your data.

1. Information We Collect & How We Use It

To provide a seamless experience across the Web App and the Extension, we collect the following limited information:

Account Information (Web App): When you register for the Global Job Hub, you can sign up via Email (First name, Last name, email, and password) or Google OAuth (Name, profile picture, and email). This data is used strictly for authentication and account management.
Search Logs (Web App): When you use the search engine on our Web App, we log details about your searches (such as search type, queries, locations, applied filters, result counts, and latency). This data helps us analyze search behavior and improve our algorithms. All search logs are tied to your account and are permanently deleted if you delete your account.
Saved Jobs (Web App): Jobs you save to "My Jobs" in the Web App are stored in your account, so your list is available on any device you sign in from. We keep a copy of the listing's public details (title, company, location, salary, skills), plus any application status or note you add yourself. All of it is permanently deleted if you delete your account. This is different from the Chrome Extension's pipeline, which stays entirely on your device — see Section 3.
Approximate Location — Country Only (Web App): When the Web App loads, we perform a one-time lookup to determine which country you are in. We use it to show prices in the appropriate currency at checkout, and we save the two-letter country code against your account so we can understand which countries our users come from and which parts of the world to build for next. We store the country code and nothing more — never your city, never coordinates, and never your IP address (see Section 4).
Signup Source (Web App): If you reach the Web App from a link on our website, we record which page sent you — for example, our "Visa Sponsorship Jobs in Germany" page — and save that label once against your account when you register. It tells us which pages genuinely help people so we can write more of them. It is a plain text label: no cookies, no tracking of you across other websites, and nothing shared with advertisers.
Resume Data (Web App & Chrome Extension): When you upload a resume, we extract its text and save it securely to your account. That one copy is what powers the features you choose to use:
- Job matching (Smart Match): we generate a numerical representation of your resume so that job listings can be scored 0–100 against your actual experience. This comparison runs on our own infrastructure. Your resume is never sent to a job board, a recruiter, or an employer.
- Resume Builder: if you import an existing resume, its text is sent once to a third-party AI provider to convert it into a structured document you can then edit. The resulting draft, the template you pick, and the original file name are saved to your account so your work survives closing the tab.
- ATS scoring: the score estimating how well your resume would survive an automated screening system is calculated entirely inside your own browser. Nothing is transmitted anywhere to produce it.
- Auto-Tailored Cover Letters: when you click to generate a cover letter, your resume text and the public job description are sent to a third-party AI provider exclusively to write that one document.
We never sell resume data and never share it with recruiters or employers. It is permanently deleted when you delete your account.
Company Research Cache (The Magic Toolbox, Chrome Extension): When you run a "Deep Company Research" check, our system uses a third-party AI to analyze the company. We save this resulting AI analysis (company name, location, and research scores) in our database. This acts as a cache to speed up the process if another user researches the same company later that month. This data is strictly company-level information and is never tied to your account, identity, or any user identifiers.
Usage Analytics: We use Google Analytics to monitor broad, high-level metrics so we can analyze performance, debug issues, and refine features.

2. The Hybrid Ecosystem & Community-Sourced Data (Extension)

The JobGlance Global Job Hub operates on a hybrid ecosystem. While our automated systems source a large portion of the job listings, we also rely on anonymously pooled community contributions from our users to keep our database expansive and accurate.

Data contributed passively through the extension serves two distinct purposes:

System Improvement: Helping us identify errors and improve JobGlance's features and matching accuracy.
Shared Job Pool: Expanding the database of high-quality roles available to all users (standard active jobs are sent to a staging database for quality control before being published).

The Self-Healing Algorithm

As part of this community-sourced pool, we employ a self-healing algorithm to keep the job market clean. If you view a job posting on a supported site that is already expired or closed, the extension sends a real-time signal directly to our production database. This instantly hides the expired job from the Global Job Hub so no other users waste time on it, and the system permanently deletes the listing within 24 hours.

Strict Privacy Guarantees for the Community Pool

We want to be radically transparent about how this background contribution works:

Public Data Only: We collect only the publicly accessible job data (like job titles, company names, tech stacks, and visa policies) that is already visible on your screen. We collect no personal data whatsoever.
Zero Identity Tracking: The only identifier attached to extracted public job data is a randomized user_uuid generated locally when you install the extension. This simply helps us monitor submission volumes (e.g., preventing spam). We cannot map this UUID to your account or identity, and the ID completely resets if you reinstall the extension.
No Automation Bots: There are no background bots navigating pages or automating actions on your behalf on job platforms. The extension operates strictly as a passive layer over your normal browsing.
100% Dormant When Not on Supported Sites: The extension only extracts job data when you are actively visiting our explicitly supported platforms: LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Indeed, Wellfound, JobStreet, WeWorkRemotely, WorkingNomads, and Jobspresso. When you are browsing any other website, or not actively using the extension, it remains completely dormant and collects absolutely nothing.
Opt-Out Anytime: Contribution to the community pool (including the self-healing algorithm) is 100% optional. While it is enabled by default to power the ecosystem, you can opt out with a single click in the extension's settings without losing access to other features.

3. What We Strictly DO NOT Collect (Local-Only Data)

Your Saved Jobs & Application Pipeline (Chrome Extension): Any jobs you save, track, or manage within the Extension's Application Pipeline are stored 100% locally in your browser. We do not sync the Extension's pipeline to the cloud, we have no database access to it, and it cannot be accessed across different devices. Jobs you save in the Web App's "My Jobs" tracker work differently — those are saved to your account so they follow you across devices, and are covered in Section 1.
Your Browsing History: We do not track or monitor your web activity outside of the supported job board domains listed above.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Your data is only shared with trusted third-party providers (such as secure cloud databases, our authentication provider, our payment processor, a geolocation lookup service, and our AI generation partner) strictly to provide the features you actively use within JobGlance.

A note on IP addresses

We want to be precise here, because "location" can mean very different things:

Country detection: to work out your country, your browser makes a single request to a geolocation service (GeoJS, falling back to Cloudflare). As with any request your browser makes, that service sees your IP address. It returns a two-letter country code, and that code is the only thing we save — we never receive a street address, and we never write your IP address into our database.
Sign-in security: our authentication provider (Supabase) records the IP address of each sign-in session, as essentially every login system does, to protect accounts against unauthorised access. These records belong to your login sessions, are never used for analytics, marketing, or profiling, and are permanently deleted along with everything else when you delete your account.

5. Your Choices & Data Control

You are fully in control of your data:

Community Pool: You can opt out of contributing anonymous job data at any time via the extension's "Analysis Preferences" settings.
Local Pipeline Data (Extension): You can permanently delete the Extension's saved jobs and pipeline statuses at any time by clearing the extension's data or your browser's local storage.
Saved Jobs (Web App): You can remove any job from "My Jobs" at any time, which deletes it from your account immediately.
Account Deletion: You can permanently delete your Web App account and all associated data — including search logs, saved jobs, your resume data, your country code, your signup source, and your sign-in session records — instantly by using the "Delete Account" button in your account settings.
One narrow exception, for fairness: so that the free monthly allowance cannot be reset simply by deleting and re-registering an account, we keep a small record of the email address alongside the usage counts remaining in its current monthly window. It contains nothing else about you — no name, no searches, no resume, no saved jobs — and is used only to restore the correct remaining allowance if that same address signs up again.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as we launch new features or add support for new job boards. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most recent version.
