Why most "remote jobs in India" lists are useless

Search for remote jobs from India and most of what comes back is remote work in the United States. The listings are real, but you cannot take them: the employer needs you in a specific country for tax, payroll or legal reasons, and that constraint is usually buried in the description rather than stated in the title.

This page filters differently. Every role here is either based in India with a remote policy, or explicitly open to candidates anywhere — the two categories that are actually available to you.

Two kinds of remote worth distinguishing

India-based remote roles come with local employment, local payroll and usually local salary benchmarks. Globally remote roles are open regardless of where you live and often pay on an international scale, but they attract applicants from everywhere and are correspondingly harder to win.

Common questions

These are roles either based in India with a remote work policy, or open to candidates anywhere in the world. Both are genuinely workable from India — unlike most "remote" listings elsewhere, which quietly mean "remote within one specific country".

Because most boards treat "remote" as a single flag. In reality a US-domestic remote role and a hire-from-anywhere role are completely different propositions if you are not in the US. A role the employer will fill from any country, rather than one specific one — which means you can work from anywhere in the world without relocating. They are rarer and more competitive than domestic-remote roles, but they are the ones open to you regardless of where you live.
