The one barrier sponsorship cannot fix: security clearance

A large part of the cyber security job market is closed to foreign nationals, and no visa changes that. Government and defence security work usually requires a security clearance, and a clearance usually requires citizenship of the issuing country, or years of prior residence there — so a role that needs one cannot be opened up by an employer willing to sponsor. It is the most useful thing to understand before looking for cyber security jobs abroad, and almost nobody listing these roles says it.

The roles on this page sit on the other side of that line: cybersecurity jobs with visa sponsorship in private-sector security engineering, application and cloud security, detection and response, and analyst work. Even here, roughly one listing in fourteen still mentions a clearance or citizenship requirement — several times the rate on software engineering roles — so read the description before you apply. Where it asks for either, sponsorship will not get you past it.

The UK and Europe lead the search, the US leads the hiring

Most people looking for cyber security jobs with visa sponsorship start with the UK, then Europe — Germany in particular. The hiring does not follow that order. More than half of the sponsored security roles here are in the United States, with India and the United Kingdom next, and Germany, Singapore and France behind them.

That gap is worth knowing rather than fighting. Cyber security jobs in Europe with sponsorship do exist — they are in the chart above, and each country with its own page links through to the full sponsored list there — but they are a smaller pool than the searches suggest, which makes each one more contested. If you are flexible on where you go, the wider view on this page is the advantage: a cybersecurity role in Germany or Singapore can be a more realistic first move than the most-searched destination.

Common questions

It means the employer is willing to act as your sponsor so you can legally take the job as a foreign national — handling the work visa paperwork, and in most cases paying the associated fees. Without it, an employer can only hire candidates who already hold the right to work in the country where the job is based.

Every listing on this page was flagged by JobGlance's detection pipeline, which reads the full job description for explicit sponsorship language — including relocation assistance and relocation packages, which usually accompany a sponsored move. Listings are re-checked continuously and expired roles are removed within 24 hours.

Usually not. Roles that offer sponsorship are specifically open to candidates applying from abroad — that is the point of sponsoring. Some employers do prefer candidates who can attend interviews in person, which the job description will normally say.

Yes. Browsing and applying is free, with no card required. A free JobGlance account additionally scores every role against your CV and ranks your search results by fit, so you can see which ones you are genuinely competitive for before you spend time applying.

Daily. New listings are ingested each evening and roles that have closed are removed within 24 hours, so what you see here reflects openings that were live today rather than a stale archive.

Rarely, at least at first. Most government and defence roles that require a security clearance also require citizenship of the country issuing it, or several years of prior residence there, and sponsorship does not change either. The practical route for an international candidate is the private sector — the security engineering, cloud security and analyst roles on this page — where clearance is not a condition of the job.

The United States has the most by a wide margin, followed by India and the United Kingdom. The chart at the top of this page shows live totals for the leading countries, recalculated daily, and links through to the destination pages for each one that has its own.
